Abstract

The first decade of the twenty-first century full of upheavals in the world and Vietnamese economies is passing. The insurance market that was established by the Decree 100CP dated Dec. 18, 1993 will be 18 years old by the year's end. It is appropriate now to look back on past developments of this market, from “a boy” to “a young man” ready for foreign competition. The paper on the past developments is part of a research project that aims at estimating the situation and proposing measures to develop it in the coming years.
